About the role
VEF is seeking a motivated Volunteer Research Assistant to support an upcoming Feasibility Study in Northeast Nigeria. The role will contribute to data collection, data management, transcription, and documentation activities that are critical to the successful implementation of the study.
This position offers early-career researchers and aspiring Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) professionals an opportunity to gain practical experience in humanitarian and development research while working with an experienced research team.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to producing high-quality data.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct telephone interviews and administer research tools in line with project protocols and ethical standards.
· Ensure completeness, accuracy, and quality of collected information.
· Transcribe interview recordings and notes accurately and promptly.
· Perform data entry and basic data cleaning activities as required.
· Maintain confidentiality and adhere to informed consent procedures.
· Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities related to the study as assigned by the Research Team Lead
Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
Previous experience supporting research, assessments, surveys, or evaluations.
Experience conducting telephone interviews or remote data collection activities.
Familiarity with digital data collection tools is an advantage.
Experience with data entry and data management processes.
Level of Effort
This is a flexible volunteer consultancy role. Engagement will be based on project needs and study timelines. Volunteer may be assigned tasks periodically throughout the project and will be expected to meet agreed deadlines.
Remuneration and Professional gain
The volunteer role is an unpaid role; however reasonable incentives will be provided to cover communication costs (including mobile airtime/data) and approved transportation expenses incurred while undertaking project-related activities.
Professionally, the role provides practical experience in humanitarian and development research, mentorship from experienced researchers/professionals and opportunities for future research engagements.
